Monthly Thoughts (inspired by The Break) The Break was a life-changing experience for us. Not only we spent time together in Spain and online; we also learned from each other, and we connected our missions and visions. After returning to life, we realized it would be a shame not to continue the BREAKERS life. (Brave - Regenerative - Empathetic - Aligned - Kind - Enthusiastic - Rebellious - Self-compassionate). Now we want to make it a part of our life. Now we want to sustain the impact. For all of us. For female entrepreneurs. For their daughters, sons and everyone they mentor and inspire. What does it take to be in the top 1% of angels? 😇 Great to see Anh-Tho Chuong back writing in Sifted with Jean de La Rochebrochard with a blueprint for angel etiquette. It's all very common sense advice but given how inexperienced many angels and founders are, having a common set of guidelines is important. Reflecting on the month of May! It’s been such a busy month that I’ve had to fight the urge to forego my reflective practices so I can just keep getting stuff done. But here I am trying to practice what I preach. Yesterday was what felt like to me the first day of Summer. I’m practicing gratitude for the chance to spend time with family and celebrate all things Guyanese at an annual community fun day. So what’s that got to do with a professional platform? Well this month I’ve been elated to reconnect with old school mates and friends from Guyana in a professional capacity. I’m not excellent because I stumbled upon some pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, it isn’t luck it’s all about the connections I made in primary school in some cases. My Guyanese experience set me up for success. From filming with REAS Group as a precursor to my podcast to conversations with Lizanne Atherly, CFA a finance, tech and VC guru to the other conversations about next steps for my new business and opportunities to connect and build opportunities together. I’m grateful and humbled by the excellence I’m surrounded by and get to tap into. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again my confidence was assured very early on and although I might sometimes lose my mojo I’ve found some sure fire ways to reignite it and go back to being awesome when my crown tilts. Raising in public, 135 days to go 🔥 🚀 Every week, I share a weekly update of Mane Hook-Up's funding round on Substack and LinkedIn as I try to close the round in 240 days. Why? Because we always hear about how much companies have raised, not how they got there. As always, a huge thank you to the people who supported me last week: Martin Burn, Jeremy Fritzhand, Mary Kemi A., Jessica Parrish (MBA), Lucy Woolfenden, Stewart Alsop and Jeremy Wright Wins 📧 Sending our first investor email update of the year 📞 3x investor calls booked and 3x completed 🎟 Organising our very first event (which will be in March) 😱 We’ll soon have a Product & Fundraising Advisor Losses 😔 No's from 2x syndicates - worth remembering to add investors who have said no to your investor updates list as they may know people who are a better fit or become interested when you're further down the line. 💡 Lesson: investor update emails are more important than you think After sending only a handful of investor updates last year, I've decided to turn over a new leaf and prioritise sending these email updates on the 2nd Monday of each month. January's update was emailed to my list of 65 investors and Founders, and it did far more than I expected. All of a couple of hours later, I had replies, introductions and additional support (all of which are super valuable). To all of the Founders raising right now, prioritise your updates, they really do count. 📧 Email automation update More people have been added to the investor outreach automations and most people are on email 1 or 2 in the sequence. Here are the stats to date: 💃🏾 1,341 new people have been added to automations 📧 728 people have opened my emails (21% of the total live automations) 🖱️ 74 clicks on our pitch deck (11% of opened) ↩️ 8 people have replied so far (1% of opens) 📞 2x calls booked From experience, I typically get a response from email 3 onwards. With that in mind, I assume there will be an uptick next week, but I'll keep you all posted.
